The purpose of this lab is to give students practice in determining the direction of water movement specifically in plant cells. In this exercise, students place plant cells with a given osmotic potential (which they assign) into external solutions of different water potentials, and then determine what the final pressure potential will be when the cell comes to equilibrium.
Osmosis is used in Introductory Biology II: Organism Diversity, Form, and Function at Allegheny College.
